What Is
Spectr is a peer-to-peer encrypted messaging platform designed for maximum data minimisation.
Messages are encrypted on your device before they leave it. Only the recipient holds the key required to decrypt them. Spectr servers cannot decrypt message content.
Encrypted message data may pass through relay infrastructure while devices are offline, but it remains unreadable ciphertext. No readable message content is stored server-side.
Messages exist in readable form only on the sender’s and recipient’s devices.
When a message expires, the decryption key is permanently destroyed on both devices. The remaining ciphertext becomes mathematically unreadable.
Spectr reduces trust to mathematics.

How It Works
Peer-to-peer encryption
Messages are encrypted end-to-end before transmission. Only the communicating devices can decrypt them.
Server-blind architecture
Encrypted messages may be temporarily relayed while recipients are offline, but servers cannot decrypt message content.
Local message control
Messages are stored locally on devices for the time period chosen by the user.
Timed cryptographic expiry
When a message expires, the decryption key is destroyed. The encrypted data becomes permanently unreadable.
Remote detonation
Users can trigger remote deletion of their account and/or chats, removing accessible data from devices.
Emergency wipe
A local instant wipe deletes messages, keys, contacts, and account data from the device.
Anonymous account creation
Sign up with a nickname and password. No email or phone number required.
Anonymous crypto payments
Subscriptions can be paid using supported cryptocurrencies without personal billing information.
